Web Pioneer Casper to Open 200 Stores

Furniture World News Desk on 8/17/2018

According to the Wall Street Journal, Casper, an online mattress seller, has plans to open 200 retail locations in North America over the next 3 years, in a bid to stand out against dozens of internet copycats.

Casper, among other online retailers, is following the trend of online retailers opening brick and mortar stores as a way to boost recognition and stand out over other online retailers, following the heavyweights such as amazon.com and WayFair.

Casper, which launched in 2014, opened it's first retail store in NYC earlier this year. It plans to turn 18 temporary retail stores into permanent locations that make up part of the planned 200 location openings.

The openings come as many traditional retailers are taking opposite actions: shrinking their physical locations and refocusing on online efforts. At the end of 2017, Mattress Firm announced the closing around 200 of its 3,400 stores.
