American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame® Hosting Series of Events at April Market

The American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame® is hosting several social and educational events during the April 13-17 High Point Market in its new home at 311 S. Hamilton St.

Opened in April of 2023, this world-class space provides a place for the home furnishings industry and the public to gather, honor and learn, while also serving as a hub for a host of ongoing activities and events, including workshops, seminars and meetings. For the Spring Market, the American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame also is opening four new permanent and three new traveling exhibits, as well as the lighting of the new Eternal Flame.

Designed to inspire, the Hall of Fame celebrates leaders and each person who makes the home furnishings industry $150 billion strong. The home furnishings industry holds a unique position at the center of home life. Now, the industry has a home worthy of this impactful position.

Paul Broyhill Future Leaders Awards Reception and Cocktails

5:30-6:30 p.m.

Join us as we raise a glass to honor this year’s winners of the Paul Broyhill Future Leaders Award. Named after one of the industry’s leading families and a company that focused on executive training, the Paul Broyhill Future Leaders Award is given annually to five emerging young leaders in recognition of their leadership, personal growth, communications skills and commitment to the greater home furnishings industry.

Leaders Circle Celebration

Sponsored by Samson, the Leaders Circle celebration includes the lighting of the Wanek Family and Ashley Furniture Industries Eternal Flame at 5:45 p.m. in the courtyard outside the entrance to the Hall of Fame. In addition, this event will celebrate eight new exhibits making their debut this market:

  • The Design Lab: A new interactive learning resource, The Design Lab features a variety of hands-on creative activities designed for children.
  • Immersive Pattern Maker: Part of the new Design Lab, the Immersive Pattern Maker is a sophisticated digital tool that enables kids of all ages to explore what it’s like to design a product.
  • Design Your Room: Powered by custom software, the Design Your Room kiosk invites visitors to bring their dream rooms to life by placing digital versions of furnishings into imaginary room settings.
  • Tell Us Your Story Video Booth: Have an idea, opinion or memory about the home furnishings industry, or the role of furnishings in your home, to share? The new Video Booth provides a fun way to share your thoughts with the world at large.
  • Textiles Reimagined: A Study of Digital Printing. Produced by Springs Creative, this engaging, interactive exhibit invites visitors to immerse themselves in the brave new world of digital textile printing.
  • Muse, a new Trend Spotter exhibit: Curated by Fashion Snoops, this exhibit showcases a select mix of new furnishings illustrating the emerging trend of Muse, an eclectic mix of funky furnishings that speaks to Generation Z.
  • Christopher Guy Wishing Tree exhibit. On loan from Design Centre Chelsea Harbour in London, this magical Wishing Tree, adorned with miniature versions of Christopher Guy furnishings, was originally created by the company’s talented artisans in support of Make-A-Wish UK.
  • ISFD Innovation + Design. This new exhibit highlights the winning work created by the finalists in a juried competition for professional furniture artisans and woodworking students conducted by the International Society of Furniture Designers.

Meet Scott Coley and get a signed copy of his new book: “Elements of Furniture Design: Principles and History of Furniture Design.” A comprehensive look at the history, elements of construction, and steps involved in furniture design, “Elements of Furniture Design” is a rich resource of information gathered from Coley’s 30 years of working as a professional furniture designer. These elements of design are essential, and there is no other resource where they are available in one place. Coley’s book provides readers with a comprehensive knowledge of how furniture is designed, enabling them to use this information to create new and exciting design concepts.

ISFD Meet the Makers Reception

See some of the finest new work from top artisan designer-makers and meet the individuals who created them. Selecting from a record 73 entries, a panel of judges from the International Society of Furniture Designers chose 18 products from nine professional designer-makers and seven students to spotlight in the Innovation + Design exhibit on display at the Hall of Fame. During the reception, beer, wine, soft drinks and light hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Trend Seminar and Mimosa Brunch: A Conversation with Gen Z-Exploring the Next Generation

Join us for a mimosa brunch and seminar as we dive into the Generation Z mindset. In partnership with the new Muse-themed trend exhibit created by Fashion Snoops at the Hall of Fame, Sunpan will host an immersive panel of trend and conversation, where we explore the habits, wants and needs of younger generations and how they will redefine the design industry. Moderated by Jaye Anna Mize, vice president of advisory for FS, this illuminating conversation will feature product designer Parker Heath of PAR KER Made, interior designer Emily Keane of Design Bar, and Virginia Chamlee, author of “Big Thrift Energy.”
