Good’s Furniture & Mattress Celebrates 130 Years of Kewanee History

Good’s Furniture & Mattress announces it is celebrating its 130th anniversary. Since 1895, the family-owned, fourth-generation business in Kewanee, Illinois has evolved throughout the years, expanding its store to over 250,000 square feet, but one thing has remained the same; the Good family is always at the heart of the business.

“The community and customer support we’ve received throughout the decades has meant everything to our family,” said Phil Good, Fourth Generation family member of Good’s Furniture & Mattress. “I grew up helping my dad at the store, and seeing the same customers and their descendants from when I was a little boy still shopping here, means so much to me. My wife Kaleigh and I have three boys of our own and it is a full circle moment to see how we carry on some of the same traditions that I grew up with, coming into the store with my parents at odd hours to unload furniture and help set up the showroom. That is what it means to be a part of a family business and it is so special to share these traditions with my boys.”

Good’s Furniture is located at 200 North Main Street and extends over 12 buildings which is the length of three football fields and three city blocks. The store carries a variety of furniture for all types of rooms, including living rooms, bedrooms, offices and kids rooms. The variety has made it a destination and experience for people all across the Midwest.

“When my great-grandfather Elmer Good opened the store, things were a lot different,” said Good. “The store had stables out back of delivery horses to help customers get their furniture and our store was truly a fraction of what it is now. We’ve only continued to grow throughout the years, expanding into new buildings, opening a glass skywalk, adding new showrooms and even four newly remodeled luxurious suites for our customers to stay overnight in. It has been so fun to watch it grow and never fails to amaze new customers when they come into Good’s. Some of our customers even joke that if you’re not going to find it at Good’s, you aren’t going to find it.” 

“The company wouldn’t be what it is today without our amazing team that has helped contribute to our success and the 130 years of support from the community,” said Kaleigh Good, 4th Generation family member of Good’s Furniture & Mattress. “We have so many talented and hardworking people who have been a part of our mission for decades, some even 20 and 30 plus years. We are like a family. Our employees and our community are the reason behind our why we do what we do.”

On Saturday, February 15, customers and the Kewanee community are invited to celebrate at Good’s Furniture for the birthday party celebration at their store. There will be custom chocolates, prosecco, cake, keepsake wine tumblers and customers can enjoy the Anniversary Sale and save $130 off every $1000.
