Easy Furniture Web Tip 197: The Solution to Longish Web Pages

A professional services client phoned me worried about a page that he thought was too long. I took a look and it was long. It wasn’t too bad, though, as it was broken up into manageable bits of information with helpful subheads.

But my client just didn’t like all those words on one page.

I told him to simply break up the individual topics into separate pages. Furniture companies can do the same thing.

Let’s say you have a page about furniture trends and styles. It contains paragraphs with subheads entitled Contemporary, Traditional, Reclaimed, Technology Friendly, Colors, Fabrics, etc. Simply break out all those topics onto separate pages.

The separate pages have two advantages. Each one is easier for your visitor to read. And each page is a new opportunity to embed relevant keywords that tell the search engines what the page is about. This will increase traffic to your website.

When the topics are all grouped together on one page, it’s difficult for the search engines to determine what the page is about. They may simply serve it up in their listings as a “furniture trends” page.

By putting each topic on a separate page, the search engines will know exactly what the page is about and will serve it up in the listings reflecting each individual topic.

Remember, the more pages with written content you have on your website, the more opportunities for customers to find you.
