Hickory at Home, the consumer products retail division of Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company, announced that it will introduce several new bedding products made with foam that is CertiPUR-US-certified at this fall’s International Home Furnishings Market, October 17–22, 2009, in High Point, NC.
During the High Point Fall Market, Hickory at Home will debut new collections of futons, mattresses and mattress toppers made with CertiPUR-US-certified foam. CertiPUR-US is the American version of a voluntary testing, analysis and certification program developed by the global Flexible Polyurethane Foam (FPF) industry in Europe in 2002. When flexible polyurethane foam products receive CertiPUR-US certification, it means that they have been tested by an independent laboratory and certified to meet voluntary standards for content, emission and durability. Hickory Springs is one of several founding members of the CertiPUR-US program, which was officially introduced by the Polyurethane Foam Association and is now operated by the Alliance of Flexible Polyurethane Foam, Inc. (AFPA). The program is open to all flexible polyurethane foam manufacturers selling product in the US.

"Complying with this voluntary testing, analysis and certification program confirms to our customers and consumers that proactive measures have been taken to verify that our foam provides durable comfort and is produced in a responsible manner. It also complements our ongoing company-wide environmental responsibility and sustainability efforts."
The CertiPUR-US certification process involves intense foam assessment, including VOC testing and chemical breakdown analysis. It also involves signed affirmation that CertiPUR-US-prohibited ingredients, such as ozone-depleting CFCs, PBDE fire retardants, lead, mercury and other materials of concern, are not being utilized in the foaming process.
