Extending their alliances with buyers, manufacturers and trade fairs overseas, officials with World Market Center SM announced they have retained industry veteran Jay Dash of Jay Dash International as a project advisor and Director of International Operations for the project, as well as to manage business development opportunities globally. “This is the most exciting project of its kind in the United States and perhaps the world for the home and contract furnishings industry,” Dash said. “I believe Las Vegas is the perfect location for this project and I am proud to be associated with World Market Center SM.” “The principals of World Market CenterSM are to be congratulated on their commitment to put together this project, which will have significant benefits for the industry. It represents the best entrepreneurial spirit of America,” Dash added. “The first building is fully leased and a true success story.” Possessing more than 35 years of experience in the industry, Dash most recently produced the contract program at Heimtextil for the U.S. Department of Commerce. He also produced contract programs for Heimtextil U.S.A. and Decosit, an international trade fair for upholstery fabrics in Brussels, Belgium. In addition, his network of global agents distributes contract products to the hospitality and cruise industries. Dash represents manufacturers with over $3 billion in annual sales. “Without question, Jay adds another dimension to our project,” said Shawn Samson, co-managing partner of World Market CenterSM. “We have said from the beginning that we view World Market Center SM as an international market. Now that we have successfully attracted some of the leading domestic furniture manufacturers to Phase One, it is the perfect opportunity to undertake a strategic international initiative, which we believe will set apart Las Vegas Market from any other market in the US. Jay is a veteran in the industry who can offer unparalleled inroads to global companies.” As one example of initiatives being pursued, Samson called a particular specialty of Jay Dash, the global textile market, a natural fit for World Market Center SM considering Las Vegas is home to some of the largest hotels and contract business buyers in the world. Samson added that he and co-developer, Jack Kashani, “have been working on exciting global opportunities that will establish Las Vegas as the premiere international venue in the United States.” Groundbreaking was slated for March 21, 2003 for Phase One of World Market CenterSM, which will total more than 1.3 million square feet of showroom space dedicated to all aspects of home furnishings, including furniture, bedding, decorative accessories, lighting and a first-class Design Center.
