Specialized Transportation Inc., STI, a leader in high value product logistics, announced the purchase of 114 new trailers. This will be  the second trailer purchase in the last seven months totaling 226 trailers. These trailers will be supporting supply chains for companies engaged in leading edge telecommunications, healthcare, medical devices, retail fixtures, trade show exhibits and aviation and space technology. STI has contracted with Great Dane Trailers and Kentucky Manufacturing to fulfill the purchase.

While the new trailers are equipped with the latest asset management technology, the distinct design goal is cargo integrity, safety, and efficiency. For these very expensive and delicate high touch products, special equipment and highly engineered trailers are required to maintain shipment integrity during transit.

Unlike a standard freight trailer, the STI trailers feature enhanced cargo securement, air ride suspension and tuck-under lift gates. A portion of the new trailers are equipped with 10-foot side loading doors for ease in loading/unloading of very large products. In addition, STI’s trailers are equipped with double-slot logistics posts enabling almost 4,500 internal cargo fastening points and decking flexibility. This allows for almost limitless cargo securement configurations. Lift gates with the latest in technological improvements have been added for ease of use and improved reliability. STI’s tires are SmartWay certified and the trailers are equipped with an integrated tire inflation system for improved efficiency, reliability, and to minimize down time.

The trailers are equipped with satellite-based tracking, allowing STI to give customers real-time visibility of all shipments. The new technology will improve utilization of assets, monitoring, reporting and enhance overall tracking performance.

“Whether it is picking up priceless works of art from a museum, securing a six figure MRI machine, or managing a retail fixture roll out in a crowded downtown location, our equipment meets the unique white glove requirements of our customers,” stated Gary Durkes, Director of Procurement at STI.
