Proposed California Law Seeks To Mandate Lower Levels Of Flame Retardants In Furniture Foams

Scientific American recently published a feature, "Foam Alone: Do Furniture Flame Retardants Save Enough Lives to Justify Their Environmental Damage?" that discusses proposed changes to California Technical Bulletin 117 enacted in the 1970s that sets the standard in the US for open flame testing. The proposed revision would reduce the amount of flame retardant chemicals allowed in foams used in upholstered furniture.
