Mazer Discount Superstore announced that it is supporting tornado victims and families with a food drive at 816 Green Springs Highway in Homewood, Alabama on Sunday, May 1, from noon until 6 p.m.
Items needed include laundry detergent, dry goods, canned food, diapers, pet food and supplies, cleaning supplies, paper goods and bottled soda, and the community is encouraged to give generously. All donations will be transported on Monday morning, May 2, to a designated location by The Red Cross.
Additionally, a repository for lost keepsakes will be set up in the store’s flooring department at the same location. Any found items may be delivered or sent to 816 Green Springs Highway c/o “Family Memories – Lost and Found”. These can include loose photos, photo albums, children’s artwork, home videos, documents, and other small sized memorabilia. The store respectfully requests that donors avoid bringing in larger items.
“Losing personal property is a hardship, but losing priceless family memories is heartbreaking,” says Mike Mazer, store owner. “During the storm, personal belongings may have been carried for miles and we’d like to serve as a hub in the recovery of items of sentimental value. We also want to encourage anyone with ties to victims to let them know they can look for lost items at Mazer’s.”
Individuals seeking lost mementos will be encouraged to visit the store’s “memory aisles” often, through July, when the new Jimmie Hale thrift store opens in the same location, which was announced earlier this month.
