Through collaboration with the Sleep Geek community and Feeding America®, Leggett & Platt reported that it made a $10,000 donation to Feeding America. During a 24-day period dubbed Geeksgiving, the Sleep Geek community contributed to the gift by answering questions about why they are thankful. Each day, Sleep Geek asked one question and for every response, on behalf of the community, Leggett & Platt donated between $1 and $10 to Feeding America.
Throughout Geeksgiving, from November 1 through November 24, community members were asked a variety of questions including, “Why are you thankful for innovation in the industry?” Joseph Perotta of Mattress Firm said, “With varying sleep types and vast differentiation between people when it comes to health, innovation in our industry provides a plethora of products for differing people. From memory foam and latex to adjustable bases and new coil systems, our industry is ever-changing. I am thankful for the minds that innovate and allow there to be products on the market to suit each individual’s needs.”
About her thankfulness for her co-workers, Crystal Barr from Mattress Warehouse said, “I am thankful for my colleagues because without them I would be unemployed and not able to provide for my family. Everyone I work with is always eager to help and trying to teach me new things to become successful in this industry. I am thankful to have such a great team to work with and depend on each and every day!”
Another Geeksgiving question asked, “Some may take mattress protectors for granted, but Sleep Geeks know better. What about a mattress protector should someone be thankful for?” Sleep Geek Eugene Anderson from Ashley Furniture HomeStore said, “Everyone that owns a mattress should be thankful for a protector. They keep the mattress cleaner from your skin and perspiration, will prolong the life and they are durable and easy to wash.”
Sleep Geek wanted to challenged community members to reflect on their life and give thanks for things some might take for granted, including items related to the bedding industry.
For the recipient of the gift, Leggett & Platt’s Sleep Geek community decided to select a cause that ties in with the Thanksgiving season and strives to make the world a better place. This criteria made Feeding America a natural choice. Feeding America is a charity that feeds the hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks.
Sleep Geek is the only online community for retail sales associates and bedding industry members where they can participate in such a way to support a cause. The Sleep Geek community still aims to motivate RSAs to get involved in their industry, share sales strategies and develop relationships with other RSAs.
