Woodard, Inc. Launches First Television Spot

Woodard, Inc., one of the nation's leading manufacturer's of casual furniture, has recently completed production of their first television spot. The spot will make its broadcast debut on the national cable network Home and Garden Television (HGTV) on March 2, 1998 and will run from March through May 1998. The spot features Woodard's latest wrought iron sling collection, Salerno, in an adaptation of the "Salt Flat" ad from the current print advertising campaign. The television spot shows the Salerno dining group set in a dry, desert-like environment. Above the Salerno dining set is a clear blue sky with the sun's scorching hot rays beating down on the drought ridden land. As the Salerno dining set stands alone, a gust of wind blows away the background image leaving only the Salerno collection on the screen. The voice-over closes the spot with Woodard's tagline, "Elegance in Any Setting." The casual industry previewed the Woodard spot in development during the International Casual Furniture and Accessories Market in Chicago this past August. According to Dean Engelage, Director of Marketing for Woodard, Inc., "At the Casual Show, our retail customers were very pleased to see that we are supporting the Woodard line with cable advertising. "Retailers are particularly interested in the Salerno collection used in the spot. Early sales for Salerno have surpassed many of our expectations." By the end of 1997, tapes of the Woodard spot will be made available in 1" and 3/4" formats for Woodard retailers. Engelage comments, "We want to equip our customers with as much marketing support as possible. In addition to our merchandising program, we will send retailers copies of the television spot which they can tag the end with their own retail store information." Engelage adds, "We realize that not all of our customers are alike. They have different needs and different approaches to selling casual furniture. Some of our retailers have already run television advertising for their own stores. With the tape, retailers can customize the spot to include their store name, location, phone number or even Web site by contacting their local cable company." Retailers must contact their local sales representative to order the Woodard spot which was created and produced by Michael Meyers and Associates in Chicago.
