The grand opening party of Gorman's Lakeside home-furnishing store in Shelby Township integrated style and fun to raise more than $3,000 to benefit the Macomb Center for Performing Arts' endowment fund. Gorman's celebrates it's 60th year of business as it opened their new 36,000 square-foot store, located at 14285 Hall Road, Shelby Township, Michigan (North side of Hall Rd. (M-59), between Hayes and Schoenherr, across from Lakeside Mall). Doors opened to the public on Wednesday, July 26, 2000 at 7 p.m., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Ron Current, Shelby Township Marketing Director. The night included entertainment and hors d'oeuvres, along with psychic readings done by WNIC's Michelle Ann Cox-Lomas and her colleagues. The new Lakeside home-furnishing store is set-up to focus on room niches including a complete selection of Drexel Heritage furniture along with well-known manufacturers such as Century, Baker, Lexington, Stanley, Preview and DIA. "This area has been under-served in the better furniture market," says Bernie Moray, Gorman's owner, whose stores provide extensive interior design expertise at all five of their locations in Novi, Southfield, Troy, Dearborn and the new Lakeside store. Bernie Moray, CEO and Tom Lias, president of Gorman's, are industry leaders and have actively contributed to the communities in which their stores are located. With this philosophy, Gorman's contributions have resulted in more than $1 million for organizations such as the Children's Hospital of Michigan, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Marine Corps Toys for Tots, USO, Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, Macomb Center for Performing Arts and the Michigan Diabetes Association.
