AFMA Human Resources/Safety Division Elects New Officers

The Human Resources/Safety Division of the American Furniture Manufacturers Association elected its 2001-2002 officers at its annual meeting Sept. 12-15 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Nancy Taylor, vice president of human resources for Harden Furniture in McConnellsville, N.Y., was elected president. Other officers are Sandra C. "Sandy" McDowell of Hickory Chair Co. in Hickory, first vice president; and William Howard of Bernhardt Furniture in Lenoir, second vice president. Dave Masters of Thomasville Furniture Inds. in Thomasville, moves to chairman of the board. The division also elected new members to its board of directors. Directors serving three year terms are Jay Karlinsky of Vaughan-Bassett Furniture Co. in Galax, Va.; Doug Maxwell of Action Inds. in Tupelo, Miss.; Tim Prillaman of Stanley Furniture in Stanleytown, Va.; James Sheehan of Ethan Allen in Old Fort, N.C.; and Tim Solesbee of Clayton Marcus in Hickory. Also at the meeting, Wayne Bunigardner of Bernhardt Furniture in Lenoir was elected a permanent member of the board. Bumgardner serves as chairman of the Safety Committee. "Wayne's permanent position on the board underscores the importance we place on safety," said Wliite G. Watkins, AFMA's vice president of Human Resources and Safety. Officers also elected Joe Harrill of Henredon Furniture Inds. in Morganton as AFMA's delegate to the ANSI ASC.01 Woodworking Machinery Committee. AFMA's Human Resources/Safety Division focuses on employment practices, safety and issues that impact the member companies' corporate business plan. The American Furniture Manufacturers Association (AFMA) is headquartered in High Point, N. C - the furniture capital of the world - and represents more than 350 leading U.S. furniture manufacturers. These manufacturers represent a total of 400, 000 employees and more than 75 percent of U.S. furniture shipments.
