American Furniture Hall Of Fame Seeks 1998 Nominations And Celebrates First Decade

The American Furniture Hall of Fame announced that NOMINATIONS FOR THE ADDITION OF PERMANENT MEMBERS WILL BEGIN ON JUNE 15, 1998 AND CLOSE ON JULY 15, 1998. This will be a celebration of the tenth year of elections to the American Furniture Hall of Fame. AFHF sponsors nominate leaders who have made notable contributions to the development and growth of the American furniture industry. Candidates can be nominated posthumously. The portraits of the 39 members of the American Furniture Hall of Fame are mounted on the AFHF Wall in the Furniture Discovery Center, High Point, North Carolina. Members of the AFHF inducted from 1989 to 1997 include: Hollis S. Baker, John D. Bassett, John C. Bernhardt, Nathan 1. Bienenstock, Rose G. Blumkin, Harold P. Braun, James Edgar Broyhill, David J. Brunn, Robert G. Culp, Sr., Thomas A. Finch, Jr., Henry A. Foscue, Morris Futorian, J. Raymond Gerken, John R."Jack" Gerken, Robert A. Glick, Robert P. Gruenberg, James J. Haverty, Mary M. Henkel, Clyde Hooker, Jr., Robert 0. Huffman, Leo Jiranek, Albert G. Juilfs, J. Wade Kincaid, Edward M. Knabusch, Peter E. Kroehler, Edward H. Lane, Hyman Meyers, Patrick H. Norton, Hampton 0. Powell, Joseph E. Richardson II, Amos G. Rhodes, Lawrence K. Schnadig, Edwin J. Shoemaker, Charles R. Sligh, Gustav Stickley, Charles F. Tomlinson, Parks C. Underdown, Thomas Franklin Wrenn, and J. Smith Young. "All sectors of the industry including manufacturers, retailers, suppliers, sales representatives and furniture designers are eligible to be nominated as members and can become sponsors," says Jerome Bolick, Southern Furniture Company, the president of the American Furniture Hall of Fame. "The AFHF was organized to honor those individuals whose outstanding achievements have contributed to the continued growth and development of the American furniture industry. It is vital that industry leaders become sponsors so that they can identify, nominate and vote for those most deserving of the honor ... not forgetting the generation of pioneers."
