While the furniture industry regards Segusino/Marina's as a premier manufacturer of rustic furniture, its home state of Puebla, Mexico has a fondness that transcends much further. Puebla, located in a county plagued by unemployment, has come to respect Segusino/Marina's for its contribution to the community, especially when it comes to creating jobs. Directly, Segusino/Marina's employs over 2000 workers to handcraft their furniture. In addition, another 1000 workers are employed via subcontractors to assemble furniture, making a total impact of over 3000 jobs. An expansion of 300,000 square feet to the Segusino/Marina's factory in 2000 will once again improve the employment rate. The creation of these jobs, coupled with his community pride, has made Antonio Zarain, Sr. President of Segusino/Marina's, a virtual hero in the state of Puebla. His story is one of rags to riches and serves as an inspiration to the Polbanos. In fact, he has been appointed to the position of Secretary of Economic Development for the State of Puebla. "I am proud to serve the state of Puebla and even more proud of the opportunities I am able to give back to the citizens," says Zarain. Segusino/Marina's has also helped to boost the economic situation in Mexico by allowing franchising. There are currently over 25 Segusino/Marina's franchises in Mexico, and they were rated the most profitable in Mexico last year by a leading Mexican business magazine.
