In a move that should greatly improve the company's sales and marketing efforts, Dave Scarangella has joined contemporary specialist Giorgio Collection. Scarangella was formerly the merchandise manager for wood furniture at Thomasville Furniture Inds., and also held several other sales and marketing management positions while at the company. An industry veteran, Scarangella has held similar positions at Bassett, Bradington- Young and LADD's American of Martinsville division. "Getting someone of Dave's experience as my partner is a great opportunity for our company," said Charles O. Gordon, who acquired Giorgio Collection in November of 1998. Gordon and Scarangella will now be co-owners of the company. "Dave has been very successful in developing product and growing sales at some of the industry's biggest companies," Gordon added. "Together, I think we'll be able to make this an even more exciting line for our dealers." The Giorgio Collection is an industry leader in Italian contemporary modern bedroom, dining room and living room furniture. It is distributed in most major markets across the United States and Canada. "The contemporary arena is really the fun part of the business," Scarangella said. "It's really one of the few areas left where you can show some flair, take some chances, and be different. I think consumers are tired of going into a store and seeing 18 different versions of the same traditional or European look. That's why contemporary is growing, and that's why this is such an exciting opportunity." Scarangella said he will focus on strengthening the company's dealer base, and making sure future product offerings live up to Giorgio Collection's reputation for uniqueness. "Most big companies either can't or don't want to do contemporary furniture," Scarangella said. "We do. And our goal is to be the best there is when it comes to providing such product." Scarangella is a graduate of Virginia Tech, and also holds an MBA from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. He resides in High Point with his wife, Debbie, and daughter, Amanda.
