Oriental Weavers of America introduced three collections, a total of 78 new rugs, and honored the legendary designer, Bob Mackie, during the International Rug Market July 19th through July 22nd in Atlanta. The new rugs represent a diverse section of contemporaries and transitional patterns. As the ancient Egyptians once crossed the bridge to Nubia, OWA has again crossed the bridge of innovation. This 8-color collection is woven with two yarn systems and has an extremely dense construction and a plush pile. With a new bank of beautiful earth-tone colors and a sophisticated textured look, this collection is guaranteed to accent any room of the home. Suggested retail price for a 6x9 is $299. Rosetta, also known by its newer name of Rashid, is 65 km east of Alexandria, where the Western branch of the Nile empties into the Mediterranean. Founded in the 9th century, the town is most famous as the place of discovery of the stone stele that provided the key to deciphering hieroglyphics. During the 17th and 18th centuries, it was also Egypt’s most vital ports. In the 19th century, Rosetta fell to decline and became what it is today – a sleepy little provincial town sustained by fishing and dates. As beautiful as the architecture mixed amongst this ancient city, the Rosetta Collection is also famous for its intricate detail and subtle colorations. OWA is proud to introduce this 12-color collection with a lush 12-mm pile and a new palette of soft colorations. Suggested retail price for a 6x9 is $299. Starting with the Mosque of Amr in 827 AD, studies have concluded that it’s possible to trace the development of some of the most beautiful architecture in the world through the Muslim culture. Thousands of years later, OWA has taken that beauty and transformed it into the Carved Accents Collection. Carved Accents is a 6-color BCF product filled with soft transitional and floral designs set apart with a carved look, which makes the collection as sophisticated and expressive as the earliest Egyptian structures. Suggested retail price for a 6x9 is $149. Hundreds attended the extravaganza held to honor Mackie, world-renowned for dressing the most beautiful women in the fashion and entertainment industries. Mackie was on-hand for interviews and photographs. OWA added four new patterns to the Bob Mackie Home Collection. Each of the patterns are woven with a 12-color palette of brilliant colors calculated to coordinate with the diverse taste of today’s furnishings, fabrics and accessories. The patterns are woven in the Nylene yarn system, a patent-pending construction invented by Mohammed Farid, chairman and CEO of Oriental Weavers. The nylon/ polypropylene blend adds a layer of sheen to the rugs and a lasting durability. Suggested retail price for a 6x9 is $299.
