A new, easy-to-read primer on engineered comfort is now available to furniture designers, manufacturers and suppliers. The Millennium Report on Engineered Comfort explains the relatively new concept of engineered comfort; a process based on scientific data obtained from standardized performance testing. Produced by the Alliance for Polyurethane Foam (AFPF), the booklet defines the properties of furniture components and explains how each component impacts the comfort of an upholstered piece. The report then links the science of construction with the aesthetics of design. The result is a more comfortable and versatile product at a better value. The booklet, designed as a companion piece to AFPF's The Furniture Industry's Guide to Today's Flexible Polyurethane Foam, also takes a look at the integral role flexible polyurethane foam plays in the comfort of upholstered furniture. It highlights the importance of FPF suppliers working in tandem with furniture manufacturers early in the design process. "Comfort is a top priority in upholstered furniture," says Lou Peters, executive director of the Polyurethane Foam Association (PFA). "We hope this resource will raise furniture manufacturers' awareness of FPF's versatility and the crucial role it plays in the comfort of any piece of upholstered furniture." The eight-page booklet is available now. Call the Alliance for Flexible Polyurethane Foam at 1-800-696-AFPF for your free copy. The Alliance for Flexible Polyurethane Foam is a joint program of the Polyurethane Division of The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc., and the Polyurethane Foam Association.
