As the International Home Furnishings Market wrapped up its fall 2002 run here, at least one exhibitor is can crow about a “best ever” showing. Largo International, a Houston-based distributor of bedroom and dining room lines, enjoyed unprecedented traffic and orders, thanks in large part to a successful star-based marketing plan. The Jaclyn Smith Home collection “hit a home run at market,” according to Largo President Glenn Wakefield. “The buzz around the product launch has been amazing,” he said, surveying Largo’s South Main Street showroom as the semi-annual product showcase wound down earlier this week. Winston-Salem-based Fyock & Associates handled most of the marketing push for the Jaclyn Smith Home brand, including publicity, media interview scheduling, media tours and press kit production. “Glenn had great vision, and we were able to help him bring it to life,” said Fyock & Associates VP of Marketing Bill Kopald. “Working with Largo -- to tell their story -- and seeing the success of this line makes it all the more rewarding.” Ms. Smith was at the Largo showroom October 16-19, meeting with buyers of her three “signature collections.” She personally escorted retailers through the showroom, explaining each collection, its origin, functionality and her design input. “To have Jaclyn Smith in our showroom… reinforces our commitment to customers,” said Largo’s Wakefield. “Now we’ve got to get the product out,” he added, noting that with the new orders, his company will be working hard through the first quarter of 2003 to meet demand. “We’ve seen what a good marketing plan can do for us,” he said. “And we couldn’t be happier.”
