Century Furniture Industries has committed $50,000 to the construction fund for the International School of Home Furnishings that is planned at High Point University. Bob McKinnon, President of Century, says 'We are pleased to be a part of a project that is designed to help increase the level of education and professionalism within the home furnishings industry. Over the years we have made every effort to participate in educational causes and we feel that High Point University's plan for this new facility is a step in the right direction." Century Furniture Industries, a division of CV Industries, is the world's largest privately owned manufacturer of high end residential furniture. Its broad product line of both wood and upholstered furniture consists of bedroom, dining room and occasional collections in traditional, transitional and contemporary styling. Century is recognized in the industry as a design leader, in the forefront of finish applications and details of craftsmanship. Century currently has three upholstery factories, a world-class chair facility, and two case goods factories. With a 50-year history of stable growth, an aggressive new management team, and considerable investment in new technology, the company is poised for rapid growth and further expansion. To expand its market, contract division recently was formed to provide the level of service necessary to become a leading player in the upper-end niche of the hospitality industry. The company has the resources and ability to undertake even the largest of contract projects. High Point U's Projections: Projected cost of the International School of Home Furnishings is approximately $3 million. It is hoped that the funds can be raised and construction started by the end of 1998. The building will be home to High Point University's three home furnishings-related majors, Home Furnishings Marketing, Home Furnishings Management, and Interior Design. The building also will be an educational and historical center for the furniture industry. Plans include a research center where both historical and current information will be placed, and a small gallery for display of selected pieces of furniture that have been commercial successes throughout the 20th Century. One floor of the building will be designed as a training/seminar center where both university classes and industry workshops and seminars can be held. That floor will feature tiered classrooms with the latest audiovisual equipment. For more information on High Point University call 910-841--9125. E-mail: edull@acme.highpoint.edu
