Vaughn Sets Sights On Promotion As President Of Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers, Inc.

Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers, Inc. (AHMI), elected new officers and board members to two-year terms at its 70th anniversary celebration at The Phoenician in Scottsdale, AZ. More than 195 members and guests attended the four-day convention to mark 70 years of service to the lumber industry. Founded in 1928 by a group of hardwood lumber producers, the association has served the industry through promotion of Appalachian logs, lumber and products and education of landowners on forest management issues. The membership elected officers for 1998-2000. They are as follows: President -Emmett P. "Buck" Vaughn Jr., Emmett Vaughn Lumber Co., Knoxville, TN; President-Elect - Jim C. Hamer, Jim C. Hamer Lumber Co., Kenova, WV; Vice President-Finance - Bill A. Mullican, Jr., B.A. Mullican Lumber Co., Maryville, TN; and Past President - Howard M. Carr, Augusta Lumber Co., North Garden, VA. Vaughn said the next two years will be an exciting time for the association. In late 1997, AHMI members and staff began work on a new promotion to be unveiled later this year to educate wood users about the many benefits of Appalachian lumber. "This association has an outstanding record of promotion and education," he said. "We are going to take that to a new level in 1998 with our existing customers and reach out to people who I am sure want to use the best lumber available to them, and it's the world's choice, Appalachian." The AHMI membership also elected three board members to two year terms. They are: Kim Cramer, W.M. Cramer Lumber Co., Hickory, NC; Jimmy Powell, Canton Hardwoods Inc., Canton, NC; and Ed Ramsey, Taylor-Ramsey Corp., Lynchburg, VA. Re-elected for two-year terms were: W.R. "Rick" Armstrong, Homer Gregory & Co., Morehead, KY; R. C. Conley Jr., J. Bruce Barnes, Inc., Crozet, VA; Gregory J. Fitzpatrick, Fitzpatrick & Weller, Inc., Ellicottville, NY; Michael S. Hoover, Neff Lumber Mills, Inc., Broadway, VA; Ron Jones, Ron Jones Hardwoods, Union City, PA; L.A. Powell, Stanley Furniture Co., Stanleytown, VA; Jay V. Reese, Spartywood Products Inc., Spartansburg, PA; Jack Swanner, T&S Hardwoods, Sylva, NC; Gary G. White, Gilbert Lumber Co., Gilbert, WV; Ray D. White, Harold White Lumber Co., Morehead, KY. The AHMI Distributor Division elected its leaders for 1998. R.C. Conley, Jr., of J. Bruce Barnes, Inc., Crozet, VA, will serve as chairman. Ron Jones of Ron Jones Hardwoods, Union City, PA, was elected vice-chairman.
