Schewel Furniture Company hosted four light-hearted "I Survived the Schewels' 100th Anniversary" rallies on August 12-13 for some of the finest furniture and appliance manufacturers in the country including Broyhill, Simmons, La-Z-Boy, General Electric and RCA. Held in Lynchburg, Va., the General Patton-themed rallies were designed to emphasize the importance of Schewels' partnership with its vendors and to exchange information on new products, customer needs, and pricing. The sessions consisted of a brief history of Schewels and the key to its continued success for 100 years; the effectiveness of Schewels' 100th anniversary promotions during 1997; and information concerning the best possible products and costs to Schewel customers. The session concluded with meetings between individual vendors, Marc Schewel, chief executive officer of Schewel Furniture Company, and Jack Schewel, president of the company. "For 100 years, we have forged very strong partnerships with some of the finest manufacturers in the country," said Jack Schewel, "and we are very fortunate that they continue to give Schewel customers the best costs possible in support of our 100th anniversary and beyond." Schewel Furniture Company, operated and owned by the fourth generation of its founder, Elias Schewel, is one of the largest retail furniture chains in the Southeast with 45 stores throughout Virginia, North Carolina and West Virginia and approximately 700 employees.
