SCHEWEL FURNITURE OPENS STORE IN CHRISTIANSBURG, VA

Schewel Furniture Company, one of the largest retail furniture operations in the Southeast, held a grand opening celebration of its new store in Christiansburg, Va. on Thursday, August, 7, 1997. The inaugural event began Thursday morning with a festive ribbon cutting, attended by Marc Schewel, chief executive officer of Schewels; Donna Clark Schewel, executive vice president; Christiansburg Mayor Harold Linkous; and Town Manager Lance Terpenny. Other grand opening events included a Preferred Customer Pre-Grand Opening Sale on Wednesday, Aug. 6, and a Grand Opening Sale on Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 7 - 9. The store's grand opening sales events drew more than 600 Schewel customers. The Christiansburg store is located in the former Harris Teeter grocery store on 1675 N. Franklin Street in the North Gate Shopping Center. The 22,750-square-foot facility will serve as the permanent replacement of Schewel's former store in Radford, Va., which burned a year ago. Schewel Furniture Company, celebrating its 100~ anniversary this year, has 45 stores throughout Virginia, North Carolina and West Virginia and employs approximately 700 people. Owned and operated by the fourth generation of its founder, Elias Schewel, the company is committed to offering its customers an exciting shopping experience, better values and uncompromising service and satisfaction.
