Gillies Recognized for IHFRA Distinguished Service Award

The International Home Furnishings Representatives Association announced that Andrew D. Gillies, CHR, has been named the 1998 Harold P. Braun Distinguished Service Award for outstanding service in the home furnishings industry. The award, given annually since 1975, is the highest honor given to IHFRA members, and recognizes sales professionals who embody certain qualities and outstanding character. Recipients have distinguished themselves on behalf of IHFRA, sales professionals, and the industry, and have contributed to enhancing the image of the home furnishings community and its sales professionals. Gillies, is currently President of Wynwood Furniture, a division of DMI, Furniture, Inc. He has been a member of IHFRA since 1985 and has served on various boards and committees, culminating in his presidency in 1993. He is a Vietnam Army veteran, and a 1971 graduate of Eastern Michigan University. Gillies owned and operated a retail furniture store in Ann Arbor, Michigan, which he sold in 1978 to become a manufacturer's representative, initially for the Lane Company. Since this time, he primarily represented DMI for more than 14 years. In 1995, he joined DMI as Vice President of Marketing and in 1997 he was named President of Wynwood. Gillies will be presented with the award at the 1998 Furniture Industry Awards Gala, hosted by IHFRA, the National Home Furnishings Association, and the International Home Furnishings Center.
