Purchasing and Materials Management professionals in the furniture manufacturing industry now have a forum dedicated exclusively to their important job function. The American Furniture Manufacturers Association (AFMA) announces the formation of the Purchasing and Materials Management Group within the Manufacturing Division of the Association. Participation in group meetings and other functions is open to purchasing and materials management staff of AFMA member companies. An organizational Advisory Committee will meet on March 11, 1999 in Greensboro, NC to develop an organizational structure for the group. The Advisory Committee will also assist in preparing program materials for the Group's first meeting, scheduled for August 19-21 and to be held in conjunction with the Manufacturing and Suppliers Divisions meeting in Hilton Head, SC. "The Purchasing and Materials Management Group of AFMA was formed to address issues within this important business function," said Larry Runyan, AFMA's Vice President of Manufacturing. "We are very pleased with the reception this group has received within the membership as well as the participation and interest from Purchasing and Materials Management personnel." AFMA is a nonprofit, volunteer organization for U.S. furniture manufacturers, with over 350 corporate members representing 150,000 employees and more than 75% of domestic and global shipments of U.S. furniture.
