AFMA Model Predicts 2. 1 % Increase In Industry Shipments For 2001

Industry shipments will increase by 2. 1 % in dollar value in 200 1, reaching a total of $26.282 billion, based on the forecast of AFMA's Econometric Model. Further expansion is expected for 2002, with shipments increasing 3.4% to $27.167 billion. Consumer furniture demand is forecast to be at the $65.969 billion level in 2001 according to the AFMA Econometric Model, an increase of 1.2% over 2000; gains to $68.235 billion are projected for 2002, 3.4% over the level of the previous year. WOOD (SIC 2511) Wood furniture shipments are expected to rise 1. 3 % in 200 1, reaching $12.521 billion, then increase 2.8 % to $12.876 billion in 2002. UPHOLSTERED (SIC 2512) Shipments of upholstered furniture are expected to total $11.192 billion in 2001, up 3.2% from the 2000 level. In 2002, an increase to $11.667 billion is expected, growth of 4.2% over the previous year.
