AKTRIN Furniture Information Centre is releasing the latest in its series of furniture and information manuals. North American Furniture Standards lists and describes in detail all voluntary and governmental standards now in effect for all furniture products in the United States and Canada. Over 140 furniture-related standards and labeling requirements are listed. Most are voluntary, but some are required by federal or state laws. Included are upholstery, juvenile products, mattresses, office and institutional furniture and kitchen cabinets. Paints, coatings and lacquers are included, as well as hardware. Flammability, stability, and construction requirements are included.. Protection of manufacturers and retailers against costly product liability lawsuits easily justifies familiarity and careful compliance with all applicable standards for any furniture product. An appendix provides addresses of all major standard-setting institutions, test laboratories and certification bodies. A comprehensive index makes this manual an easy and convenient reference tool. As an added service, AKTRIN will have available working copies of every one of the standards and voluntary programs examined in the study. AKTRIN, founded in 1985, is a report-writing and consulting firm, fully dedicated to the furniture and other secondary wood product industries. It maintains its home office in Oakville, Canada, and a branch office in High Point, NC. Representatives and affiliates are located throughout the world.
