One of the great statements furniture makes is of the time-honored traditions that create a rich family history- family gatherings, holidays, births, marriages-all the milestones a family achieves. The new distressed, heirloom-quality tables from Highland House's Cotswold Cottage Collection are magnificently detailed -constructed from wicker, ornamental iron and aged wood- all possessing the look and feel of quality antiques passed down from one generation to the next-conveying a sense of warm family times and special memories. The Cotswold Cottage Collection of English cottage-inspired furniture has been so successful since its introduction last October that the design team at Highland House has developed a series of beautiful occasional tables that complete the collection. The new variety of distressed cocktail and end tables complement the Collection's "proper casual" upholstered furniture inspired by the cottages and gardens of the English countryside. These heirloom-quality pieces enable consumers to purchase sophisticated furnishings that convey a sense of history, family and timelessness, such as the furnishings found in the Cotswold region of England, where home furnishings tell a story of family history. "The Cotswold Cottage Collection is unique because it has inspired a passion in those people who want their homes to be comfortable, fashionable and sophisticated- and a reflection of their personal style," explains Anne Hood, vice president of merchandising and design at the Hickory, N.C.-based furniture manufacturer. "Every one of the Collection's new occasional tables is designed to satisfy today's consumer desire to furnish their homes with quality pieces that convey a sense of family history and warmth." Indeed, the Collection's newest tables look like they could be cherished family heirlooms. The Voyager trunk cocktail table, in antique pine finish and featuring buckled leather straps and handles, is reminiscent of the large travel trunks used early in the century. The Wordsworth rectangular cocktail table, with its bold Edwardian-carved legs and aged finish, could easily be taken for a family antique handed down from generation to generation. It is available in antique pine, antique white, Cotswold and timeworn white finishes. And the Wordsworth pedestal end table, with its beautiful carving and attention to detail, is the perfect accent piece to any room filled with family treasures. English gardens are known for their elaborately detailed iron gates and fences, and they are the inspiration for some of the Collection's new tables. The glass-top Garden Gate cocktail table is truly inspired by these magnificent gardens and helps to bring the warmth of summer afternoons indoors. Several finishes are available, including garden rust and antique white. "The variety of tables in the Cotswold Collection will give homeowners options to best create the look and feel of the cottage home, one that is accented by their own heirloom collectibles and treasures," says Hood. "These magnificently designed and crafted tables are destined to become heirlooms of their own, just like the sofas, loveseats, chairs and ottomans in the Collection."
