Joe Logan, Director of Finance and Economic Research of the American Furniture Manufacturers Association (AFMA) was one of 68 individuals who earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) in September. Prior to certification, applicants are rated on their experience and accomplishments in association management and must successfully complete a comprehensive examination which tests general knowledge of the association management profession. The 1997 class brings the total number of association executives who have earned the CAE designation to over 2,400. Among association professionals, "CAE" is an indication of demonstrated skill in leadership, activity in community affairs, and expertise in association management. The American Society of Association Executives, Washington, DC, is an individual membership society made up of more than 24,000 association executives and suppliers. Its members manage leading trade associations and professional societies across the country and also represent suppliers of products and services to the association community. AFMA is a nonprofit, volunteer organization for U.S. furniture manufacturers, with 350 corporate members representing 150,000 employees and more than 75% of domestic and global shipments of U.S. furniture. Headquartered in High Point, North Carolina, the world's furniture capital, AFMA maintains a Washington, DC office to represent the interests of the furniture industry on legislative and regulatory affairs to the government.
