Angela Adams Designs, a Maine-based company known for its innovation and quality craftsmanship, recently joined RUGMARK Foundation, a global nonprofit organization that works to end illegal child labor in the carpet industry. Angela Adams, the company’s founder, has a reputation as a master of rug design producing bold, graphic creations that make a statement. Adams made another strong statement when she joined RUGMARK Foundation. “I joined RUGMARK to ensure my clients that I don’t use child labor in the production of my rugs,” says Adams. “I want to be able to stand behind my designs 100 percent, not just the creative part, but the production phase as well.” Each of Adams’ rugs is inspired by her upbringing in North Haven, an island 12 miles off the coast of Maine. Her designs are known for their sense of timelessness, simplicity and balance, all inspired by the remote and harsh natural beauty of life off the coast of Maine. Adams is recognized for her strong yet playful designs in her U.S.-made State of Mind rug collection. In these rugs, she creates a soothing atmosphere for the modern lifestyle while exploring a variety of shapes, colors and textures. Her tactile art uses simple geometric patterns that breathe life into mundane environments. Adam’s newest “Studio Collection” line is made with 100 percent wool in India and carries the RUGMARK label. This line remains true to Adam’s distinctive designs and will offer a lower-priced option to her U.S.-made custom rugs. RUGMARK Foundation works to end illegal child labor in the carpet industry through: monitoring carpet factories; offering educational opportunities to children in India, Nepal and Pakistan; and by coordinating a labeling scheme to give consumers the best assurance that the rug they buy was not made with child labor. “It’s companies like Angela Adams that help RUGMARK succeed,” says Nina Smith, Executive Director of RUGMARK Foundation. “Adams’ decision to join our program as soon as she launched her new line of rugs shows her commitment to being a socially responsible company and at the same time to improving the lives of former child weavers.” Angela Adams’ new line will be launched at the New York International Gift Fair, Accent on Design, Booth #3867, #3869 February 2-6 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and at High Point from April 3-9th. More information on Angela Adams Design is available at www.angelaadams.com or by calling 800.255.9454.
