The Leather Research Laboratory has scheduled 2 dates for the Leather Orientation Course this year. The seminars will be held April 2 - 3 and August 6 - 7 at the University of Cincinnati, and are designed specifically for professionals involved in leather purchasing, quality control or product design, as well as newer tannery employees. This intensive seminar provides participants with the knowledge and understanding necessary to make strategic decisions on leather choice, setting performance standards, and assessing quality compliance. This course is designed specifically for the leather buyer -- the individual responsible for sourcing leather for products, such as aircraft, auto & furniture upholstery, garments, leather goods and footwear. The presentations have been geared to answer the most common questions about leather -- from how to determine its properties to how to identify potential defects. Discussions also include: Leather suitability, physical performance, shrinkage, finish resistance and color fastness. There is no other course in the U.S. geared especially for the leather buyer. Past attendees include Harley Davidson, Delphi Automotive, Aris Isotoner, Coach Leather, Lands' End, Ralph Lauren/Polo Luggage, H.H. Brown Shoe Co., and Reebok. Registration cost is $895. A course agenda and registration can be found on-line at: www.leatherusa.org For more information, contact Dr. Nicholas J. Cory, Leather Research Laboratory, at (513) 242-6300, or corynj@uc.edu
