Witt was appointed by the Supervisory Board of KolnMesse on 13 th May 1998. It was planned for him to succeed KolnMesse chief Dieter Ebert on 1st February 1999. As a result of the death of Dieter Ebert, who passed away on 15 th September 1998, aged 66, following a serious illness, the premature appointment of Jochen Witt, who has already been part of KolnMesse management since 1st September 1998, was made necessary.
