Fairchild Urban Expositions announced today that it will move the January Philadelphia Gift Show from its traditional first weekend opening to the second January weekend for the year 2000. Now running from Jan. 8-11, 2000, this one-time-only change takes the Philadelphia Gift Show off the highly anticipated Millennium New Year's weekend. "Since its inception, we've positioned the Philadelphia Gift Show as the industry's first show of the year. But, because the Millennial New Year celebration falls over the first weekend in January, we've moved the show off this date," explains Doug Miller, president, Fairchild Urban Expositions. "From holiday schedules to the concerns and questions that still surround the 'Y2K Bug,' we feel that this date change is in the best interest of our buyers and exhibitors. To be sure, we even surveyed our exhibitors during the most recent Philadelphia show and they supported the date change." Held at the Fort Washington Expo Center, just 15 minutes north of downtown Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Gift Show is the largest gift show in the Mid-Atlantic region. Featuring more than 1,000 booths, the show highlights products in a wide range of product categories. Further expanding retailers' buying opportunities, the newly announced Philadelphia Home Furnishings Show- rimming concurrently - will showcase an extensive selection of home furnishings and accent offerings in the Expo Center exhibit hall as well. To pre-register, contact Fairchild Urban Expositions at 770-952-6444/fax 770-956-9644 or e-mail: FUE@fairchildpub.com. For discounted hotel accommodations, buyers should call Connections at 1-800-262-9974. For 2001, the Philadelphia Gift Show will move back to its first January weekend date pattern -- Jan. 6-9.
