230 golfers participated in The California Furniture Manufacturers Association (CFMA) Annual President's Day Golf Tournament on Monday, February 15, 1999, at Los Angeles Royal Vista Golf Course in Walnut, California. The tournament, a sellout for the fourth year in a row, continued in its prosperity and popularity. This years successful tournament attracted 230 golfers who competed for super prizes including seven major items for any lucky player who may have made a hole-in-one. Prizes included a new GMC Yukon sponsored by Furniture Today magazine and cash prizes ranging from $15,000 to $1000 for a hole-in-one donated by generous sponsors of the event. There were also closest to the pin and long drive winners. Tee prizes, including CFMA golf shirts and many other accessories, were given to all the contestants who came for an enjoyable day on the course with friends within the industry. This year, "El Nino" spared participants who were showered only with rays from the sun. Master of Ceremonies of the CFMA 1999 President's Day Golf Tournament was former Los Angeles Dodger great, Tommy Davis who was joined by a few of his athlete friends who also joined in support of CFMA. Larry Parnell, CFMA President and General Tournament Chairman commented, "This was a great day for everyone. Sponsorship was well above last year and it's evident that this event remains very popular. We had 70 more players than last year." During the evening program, golfers and their friends gathered for dinner, the raffle and live auction. Net and Gross Trophies were awarded in each of the 4 flights and winners of the "closest to the pins" received special awards. "Longest drives" trophies were also given to attendees who traveled the farthest distance to participate in the event. Raffle prizes were drawn throughout the evening program with great prizes including a Patio Set, Big Bertha Driver, and a stereo surround sound system. Highest bidders for the auctioned items, walked away with smiles on their faces as they contributed to a great cause and took home golf prints, golf outing packages, luxurious weekend getaways or units of top-quality lumber.
