MGM Transport Corp., a Furniture Transportation Specialist serving the East Coast, has successfully completed their computer conversion from an AS400 CISC System to an AS400 RISC System. "This new system and all new software will enable MGM to be more responsive to manufacturers and retailers through the integration of such items as Internet access, Image Processing, additional EDI and added functionality", said Edward Massood, MGM President and COO. The installation and conversion of this system now being fully functional will enable MGM to maintain its high industry standards of superior service and be able to avoid any Y2K problems in the near future. In addition, MGM recently began the first of a five year truck replacement program. The phase began with the purchase of 25 Volvo 610 Integral Sleeper tractors. The units are equipped with Cummins engines and feature Rockwell transmissions and drive axles. "The Volvo VN met all of our needs and exceeded our expectations for a well-engineered vehicle with strong driver appeal", said Mr. Massood. "Once our mechanics and drivers were introduced to the product, the response was overwhelming." This upgrade in technology and equipment is consistent with MGM's history of being the Leader in the Furniture Transportation Industry. George and Mike Massood founded MGM Transport Corp, in 1952. MGM is still family owned and operated. MGM's specialty is providing LTL furniture deliveries to retailers in the Northeast from manufacturers throughout the country and the world, MGM's services also include nationwide truckload and consolidation programs.
