MGM Transport Corporation, the leading transportation and logistics provider in the home furnishings industry, has purchased of 31 new Volvo trucks in response to increased business and expansion of service territories. Additionally, the company will add 125 specially equipped new Great Dane trailers over the next eighteen months.
The Volvo VN 670 tractors are built with 21ST century technology to be more efficient, safer, and reliable. "Drivers like the truck because it's more roomy", stated Mike Rich, in charge of fleet and equipment maintenance at MGM. 'These trucks are designed with driver comfort and safety in mind."
'We tested several different trucks before making the final decision", stated Edward Massood, president and COO of MGM Transport. "Volvo clearly has the quality and engineering that meets the tough demands of the furniture transportation business. Volvo is headquartered in Greensboro, and their plant is in Virginia. We believe in supporting the area economy whenever possible."
The fleet additions are partly to replace older equipment, but also to respond to the growth of MGM's business and the expansion of their service areas. MGM was historically the LTL (less than a full load) furniture transportation leader in the mid-Atlantic and northeast areas of the country. Over the past year they expanded services throughout the southeast and into the midwest. Most recently they opened a terminal in the Los Angeles, California area, becoming the only furniture transport specialist to offer direct service from California to the entire east coast, from Maine to
Florida.
"As the market changes, we are responding with innovative solutions for our customers," stated Massood. "That includes having the best equipment and technology to improve service and productivity."
The new Great Dane trailers have the latest air ride suspension technology. They are equipped with thermoplastic interior linings that protect the sidewalls and reflect more light for better vision when loading and unloading. The clear ceilings are also designed for better visibility.
