cmi (Colonial Mills, Inc.), a leading manufacturer of braided-texture rugs and accessories, has doubled the square footage of its Finishing Department at its Pawtucket, RI manufacturing facility to meet the growing demand for its “engineered” rugs. Unlike cmi’s more traditional collections, “engineered” rugs require cutting rectangle, square or octagon shapes and then finishing the edge by fringing, serging or binding. “A number of years ago, we began producing braided-texture rugs in shapes other than oval,” said Donald M. Scarlata, President and CEO of cmi. “Today, rectangles make up a significant portion of our product line with more growth expected. This facility expansion allows us to meet the needs of today while giving us some flexibility in the future.” Scarlata added that, in addition to the increased space, the company has nearly doubled its finishing staff and purchased additional knife cutting, serging and binding machines. cmi is a leading manufacturer of a complete line of braided-texture rugs and accessories in a full range of innovative colors, shapes and styles. For more information on the company’s expansion, please contact Donald M. Scarlata, President and CEO of cmi, at 560 Mineral Spring Avenue, P.O.
