The Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers (AWFS) is requesting proposal ideas for the College of Woodworking Knowledge (CWWK), the educational program at the 2005 AWFSFair. The CWWK, one of the most extensive educational programs in the industry, takes place at “AWFS Vegas” beginning the day before the show opens (Tuesday, July 26) and running throughout the days of the show – Wednesday, July 27 through Saturday, July 30, 2005 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The 2005 CWWK will focus on delivering practical information and methods for skill development within the following education tracks: Business Management, Cabinet/Millwork, Finishing/Sanding, Techniques & Applications, CNC Software, One-Off Furniture Making, and Safety & Environment. (Other tracks may be added). Proposals for sessions must be well-defined and relevant to both the industry and the identified target audience. Sales pitches are prohibited. The proposals will be evaluated by an industry-wide advisory committee and AWFS staff. The CWWK offers three formats for attendee learning: one and a half or two hour seminars; half and whole-day intensives focused on specific skill enhancement; and the SMART program (Special Machinery And Relevant Machinery)—technical information, new technology and machine process demos presented on the exhibit floor. (Note that the deadline to submit proposals for the SMART program is January 7, 2005.) For more information, contact Nancy Fister, AWFS Education Director, at (323) 838-9440, extension 19 or email nancy@AWFS.org. You can also download the forms and get additional information about the Fair at www.AWFSFair.org. Founded in 1911, AWFS is the largest national trade association in the United States representing companies that supply the home and commercial furnishings industry. AWFS has an international membership that includes manufacturers and distributors of machinery, hardware, lumber, upholstery, materials, bedding and other supplies to furniture, cabinet manufacturers and custom woodworkers. The AWFSFair is a biennial event in which buyers and manufacturers gather from around the world to buy and sell the latest products and services related to the wood and home furnishings markets.
