Seeking close-in presence to attract value-seeking retailers, low cost import wood furniture specialist Leader International leased permanent showroom space for next month’s Fall Furniture Market here in the former First Union bank building on High Point’s busy showroom corridor at 209 North Main Street. A quick five-minute walk north from the Market’s crossroads at Main Street and Commerce Avenue, the 20-year-old Taiwan-based company will occupy about 4,400 square feet on two floors of the modern, easily accessible building at Main Street and Kivett Drive. Former occupant First Union vacated the building when it merged with Wachovia Bank which has a nearby office. “We’re in the midst of the action now,” said Mort Snitzer, vice president of sales and marketing. “In our second High Point Market, we’re now closer to the buying action with our low-priced imported furniture in high demand. Last market our showroom was out of the buyers immediate realm.” For added Market convenience, the showroom will provide limited vehicular parking, plus enjoy the traffic-generating bonus of adjacency to High Point’s newest only downtown nightclub, Club Aquis which is opening in time for Market and billing itself as region’s only “underwater” entertainment venue. Leader International imports and warehouses in Houston an array of moderately-priced case goods, dining room, entertainment centers, occasional tables and popular vanity sinks.
