The Bombay Company Launches New Web Sites Utilizing Amazon Services Technology

The Bombay Company, Inc. announced that Bombay has officially launched its U.S. web sites (http://www.bombaycompany.com/ , http://www.bombaykids.com/ and http://www.bombayoutlet.com/ ) that now utilize Amazon Services' technology and platform. This launch completes a major shift in strategy as Bombay looks to aggressively grow its Internet business. Amazon Services, Inc. is a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc.. "Today we reached a major milestone in supporting the growth of our multi- channel retailing strategy," said James D. Carreker, Bombay's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "By launching our web sites using Amazon's technologies, we not only launch in time for the critical 2004 holiday season, but we also establish a stable and scalable foundation from which to grow our business for many years to come." New features on Bombay's web sites include: -Improved search and navigation allowing customers to find products faster -Downloadable assembly instructions on more than 500 products -Price savings messages on individual items - Regular Price $300, Sale Price $199, You save $101 (34%) -A faster and more customer-friendly checkout process To celebrate the grand opening of their new web sites, Bombay is offering customers FREE SHIPPING on Internet orders throughout the U.S. for a limited time. "Our goal is to provide a great online shopping experience to our customers," said Matt Corey, Bombay's Vice President of Marketing & E-Commerce. "With our new web sites we have made significant upgrades that will make our sites easier to shop, especially with our free shipping offer to celebrate the launch. And we'll continue to add additional best-of-class features and functionality down the road including wish lists, personalization, improved merchandising tools and Amazon's 1-Click buying feature." Under an agreement inked earlier in the year, Amazon Services has built and will maintain Bombay-branded web sites that are integrated with Amazon's back-end technology systems. Bombay's U.S. web sites were the first to launch with Amazon Services, and Bombay's Canadian and business-to-business web sites will follow in a later phase of development. Bombay continues to operate order fulfillment and customer service. Bombay also maintains a storefront on Amazon.com's Home and Garden channel, which launched in October of 2003.
