The Board of Directors of the Western Home Furnishings Association, the regional trade association representing furniture retailers located throughout the western United States, met from September 9 through 11 at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado for their fall board meeting and to create a long range plan to guide the association for the coming years.  This three day retreat was spent in intensive discussion of the goals and strategic planning for WHFA to lead them in to the future.  WHFA managerial staff and a majority of the board participated in this brain storming and specific goal setting session conducted with the help of facilitator, Linda Irwin.  The strategic statement which was developed to guide the group was to:  “Grow membership, promote participation and maintain WHFA’s financial stability by recognizing industry trends and offering value added products and services.”   This statement was adopted and a list of objectives was developed to accomplish this strategy.  The WHFA staff will take these objectives and develop a business plan for implementation, reporting their progress to various committees throughout the year.  These committee chairs will in turn report on the progress of the objectives to the board of directors. The retreat was not all work and no play as the group had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful September weather of Colorado, with several folks taking the trip up to Pike’s Peak.  A teambuilding event gave the hard working group a fun break from the planning.  Several members of the group also enjoyed the golf course and tennis facilities at the beautiful Broadmoor.  An elegant dinner was hosted by WHFA to thank all for participating and an award presentation was made by President Giff Gates to Marty Cramer of Cramer's Home Center, Ellensburg, WA. for most participation of WHFA programs for 2004.
