Home Furnishings International Association announced a new member benefit -- user-friendly software that teaches newcomers about furniture and helps experienced salespeople brush up on their knowledge. The program features 36 lessons covering case goods, upholstered furniture, beds and bedding, fibers and fabric, leather furniture, and rugs. Lessons take about 20 minutes and certificates of achievement are awarded with the successful completion of each one. The software, Fundamentals of Furniture Product Knowledge, won the prestigious EDDIE award in the 9th annual software competition sponsored by the ComputED Learning Center of San Diego. Entries were from across the world, in nine categories. Fundamentals of Furniture won an EDDIE in Post-Secondary career preparation. “Hundreds of stores around the United States and abroad already use our Fundamentals of Furniture Product Knowledge sales training program,” explained Mark Lacy, senior vice president at LetterPress, the company that created the program. “They have found that more product knowledge leads to closing more sales. Sales representatives are able to correctly answer customers' questions and make confident suggestions about furniture styles, construction, and materials.” The sales training software is simple to use and is available to HFIA members at a discounted price of $263.
