The Washington Design Center is celebrated its 20th anniversary with flare. The center inducted its founding members to the Washington Design Hall of Fame with an evening reception at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center. Among the inductees was esteemed Washington designer Sarah Boyer Jenkins FASID, FIFDA. Jenkins has been at the forefront of the Washington design community in multiple capacities including former chapter president and national board member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and former national president of the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA). In 1984, after successful tenures in various interior design leadership roles with Woodward and Lothrop and W. and J. Sloane Inc., Jenkins founded her firm Sarah Boyer Jenkins & Associates, which quickly became one of the area’s most respected interior design firms. “Sarah puts her heart and soul into every project, whether it be for a commercial client or one of her many charitable contributions. She has outstanding talents and unquestionable ethics as a business woman,” said Odette Lueck FASID, of Odette Lueck Interiors. “The pages of her curriculum vitae reflect a distinctive career marked with nearly every honor and accomplishment imaginable in interior design. But what it can’t illustrate is her passion and dedication to community and the advancement of the interior design profession.” Jenkins’ induction to the Hall of Fame recognizes not only her professional accomplishments, but also her civic and charitable works. Most notably, Jenkins’ role as founding member of the Maryland Board of Certified Interior Designers, executive committee member for the Lombardi Cancer Center and past executive committee member for the March of Dimes. Jenkins has also contributed annually to the National Symphony Orchestra Women’s Committee Show House as a design adviser and participant. Jenkins’ “Gentleman’s Sitting Room” is be on display at the 2003 Show House from September 30 through November 2, which is open to the public.
