Roseanne Dore thought she had lost everything when her house burned to the ground in an electrical fire in June. With no insurance to rebuild, Dore and her three daughters were forced to move into a shed and use an outhouse.
Now, thanks to ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Stanley Furniture Co. and Young America®, the Seattle family is moving into their dream home. Built from the ground up by the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition team, the new house will also be a working bed and breakfast.
“The Dore family lost not only their home but their business and income,” says Glenn Prillaman, senior vice president, marketing and sales of Young America®. “We are pleased to help this family regain their home and to rebuild their future.”
“The designers wanted to create a home for the Dore family with a warm, relaxing feeling,” says Phil Haney, executive vice president, marketing and sales of Stanley Furniture. “They loved Stanley Furniture’s Cottage Revival, Portofino and Beau Nouveau™ collections, as well as Young America’s Winterhaven, Starlight, 2nd Nature and U R Gr8 groups. The designers intentionally chose pieces with warm, inviting finishes and soothing lines for this family that has suffered enormous trauma.”
In episodes set to air Jan. 9 and 10, 2005 the team will unveil the new dream home that Roseanne Dore will share with her daughters, ages 14, 18 and 22. On Sunday, Jan. 9, Stanley Furniture and Young America® will be on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and on Monday, Jan. 10 they will be on the premier of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition - How’d They Do That?
Each episode of the Emmy-nominated Extreme Makeover: Home Edition spotlights one deserving family. A team of designers, contractors and several hundred workers will completely rebuild the family’s house in seven days. Doing a job that would ordinarily take more than four months; the team renovates every single room – as well as the exterior and landscaping.
“There are so many reality shows on television today that exploit the worst in people,” says Haney. “We are delighted to be part of a show that showcases the best. There is no better feeling than being able to make a difference in the life of a family.”
