The National Geographic West Indies Collection, crafted by Lane Home Furnishings, will launch in Mexico’s largest retailer, Liverpool Department Stores, on Feb. 9, with a celebration at the Hotel Camino Real’s Moon Bar in Mexico City. Liverpool will showcase the National Geographic Home Collection in 11 of its retail galleries. Known for its high-end merchandise and upscale clientele, the department store chain offers clothing for men, women and children as well as home furnishings. The store is named after the English port where goods destined for Mexico were once dispatched. National Geographic’s net proceeds from the sale of the National Geographic Home Collection go to the World Cultures Fund, which helps support the work of archaeologists, cultural anthropologists and artists worldwide. “Introducing these furniture statements to Mexico is an exciting step in our efforts to expand the National Geographic Home Collection to new markets,” said Krista Newberry, vice president, licensing, soft lines. “When you combine such names as Liverpool, Lane Home Furnishings and National Geographic, it is clearly an equation that will lead to success.” The initial National Geographic Home Collection, which launched in October 2003 at High Point, was the most successful launch in the history of Lane Home Furnishings. One of the most comprehensive home collections ever assembled, the Collection brought together eight complementary licensees, offering furniture and accessories, linens, lighting and tabletop. Having only reached stores in 2004, National Geographic’s first two collections — Tropic Winds and West Indies — are now available in Eastern Europe, Western Europe, the Middle East and South America, and are among the top-selling furniture lines at Lane retail stores within the United States.
