Fashion Institute Of Technology To Hold Home Products Development Program In April

On Tuesday, April 12, 2005, the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) will hold its ninth annual Scholarship Awards Breakfast to support the college's Home Products Development program. The event, which will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 am in the Waldorf-Astoria's Grand Ballroom, will honor leaders in the industry and raise funds for student scholarships.
This year's distinguished honorees include Darlene Daggett, president, U.S. Commerce, QVC, Inc., who will receive the Retailer of the Year award; and Michael Fux, president and CEO, Sleep Innovations, who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Lyn Kirby, president and CEO, Ulta SalonCosmetics & Fragrances, and Joseph Laneve, senior vice president and general merchandise manager, Home, Bloomingdale's, will receive the Industry Leader of the Year award. Warren Shoulberg, editor-in-chief of HFNHome Furnishings Network, will emcee the morning's ceremonies.
The breakfast chair for the event is Dr. Leonard Florence of the Leonard Florence Group. Co-chairs are Carl Goldstein, S. Lichtenberg and Co., Inc.; Jeffrey Siegel, Lifetime Hoan Corporation; and Peter G. Scotese, chairman emeritus of FIT's Board of Trustees.
The Fashion Institute of Technology, which this year celebrates its 60th anniversary, is a college of art and design, business and technology of the State University of New York (SUNY), with more than 30 majors leading to the AAS, BFA, BS, MA, and MPS degrees.
The program in Home Products Development is the only one of its kind in th country. Developed with the assistance of alumni and members of the home furnishings industry, the program consists of courses in product development,
product knowledge, and marketing specific to the home products industry, both in hard (furnishings and accessories) and soft (textile) line classifications.
