Kendall College Of Art And Design To Honor Robert S. Fogarty, Jr.

Kendall College of Art and Design announced today that an Honorary Doctorate will be given to Robert S. Fogarty, Jr., Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Kindel Furniture Company, at Kendall’s Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 7, 2005, 10:30 a.m. at Fountain Street Church. Mr. Fogarty is recognized for having had a profound influence on the American furniture industry. He describes himself as the steward of a tradition that honors history, historical accuracy, quality of materials and excellent craftsmanship. The trust and respect accorded Kindel Furniture Company are demonstrated by the organizations that allow Kindel to be that steward. These organizations include the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Winterthur-the home of Henry Francis DuPont and the most significant collection of American decorative arts, the Irish Georgian Society, the Carleton Varney and Sons Collection, the Dorothy Draper Collection, and Mount Vernon. The recognitions of Kindel Furniture Company are many, including having been selected to furnish the Green Room at the 2005 Academy Awards. This fall Kindall Furniture will be showcased in a special exhibition at the City Museum of New York. Kendall College of Art and Design President, Dr. Oliver H. Evans, stated, “Kendall has enjoyed a long relationship with The Kindel Furniture Company and the College is proud to bestow upon Robert S. Fogarty an Honorary Doctor of Arts. We look forward to further collaborations with Kindel.” Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University is a four-year college preparing its students for careers as professional artists and designers. In its 76-year history Kendall has developed a solid foundation offering classes in design, drawing, art history and liberal arts and sciences. Kendall is an active community partner which annually provides over 2,000 children and adults the opportunity to pursue courses in art and design through a richly varied continuing studies program.
