On Saturday, March 20th, IHFRA, the International Home Furnishings Representatives Association, held its annual event in honor of the award recipients for the association. Among the awards given was a special recognition award, the Dean Emeritus of Certified Home Furnishings Representatives Award. Barry Wax, CHR, was the recipient of this special presentation. IHFRA is the largest, most active, professional association dedicated to furthering the business objectives of the sales representative in the home furnishings industry. A significant part of its mission is to provide education, professional standards and services for its membership. The Dean Emeritus of CHR Award was created to recognize Wax’s devotion to IHFRA’s Certified Home Furnishings Representative course and his overall contribution to the advancement of IHFRA's objectives. Wax has always been an advocate of education and professionalism for furniture manufacturers representatives and has led by example. Wax has represented Tropitone Casual Furniture in the State of Florida since 1980. He took over the territory from his father, Ken Wax, who had represented Tropitone since 1965. Wax has been very active in the Florida Home Furnishings Representative Association and the International Home Furnishings Representatives Association. He served as President of the International Association in 1995-1996 and made several trips to Washington, DC, to champion the causes for sales representatives and small businesses. During his presidency, Wax stressed the importance of education for sales representatives and attempted to elevate representatives to a new level as professional sales partners with his factory and retailers. A one of a kind lapel pin was designed to commemorate this achievement and was presented at the annual IHFRA installation of officers and awards banquet.
