Alan Friedman, Leading Furniture Designer Passes

Alan Friedman, 65, a leading furniture designer has died after a brief illness. At the time of his death he had been President of the American Society of Furniture Designers for two years, and had served on the ASFD Board since 1998. He designed fabric, leather, stationary, motion, and occasional furniture for leading US and international manufacturers. Prior to establishing Alan Friedman Associates Inc., he had been a partner in Warren-Friedman-Williams Inc., specializing in furniture and industrial design. Alan was a winner of the 2001 Pinnacle Award for motion upholstery. Alan was born in Rochester NY and graduated from the University of Illinois with a BA in Fine Arts. He lived in Seattle, having previously lived in Chicago and Short Hills, New Jersey. He leaves his wife, Lori, daughters Deborah and Melinda, sons-in-law Donald and Michael, and granddaughters Olivia and Lily. The family prefers that contributions in his memory be made to the ASFD for the David Kline Memorial Scholarship, 144 Woodland Drive, New London, NC 28127.
