Montana outdoorsman and artist Dick Idol plans to build on the success of his Dick Idol™ Northwoods collection through the launch of the new “Country Camp” group at the Spring 2004 IHFM. The Dick Idol™ Northwoods collection, inspired by the refined rustic sophistication of the Great Camps of the Adirondacks, now consists of two groups: “Woodland Forge” launched in Spring 2003 and “Country Camp.” The group of coordinating home furnishings, lighting, and accessories is expected to help retailers build upon the success of the rapidly expanding outdoor lifestyle brand. As with all Dick Idol™ products, the objective of this new group is to provide consumers with new, affordable ways to bring the beauty and spirit of the great outdoors into their homes.
“Based on the continued strong performance of the Dick Idol™ line across the US and Canada, our retail partners now understand that the ‘outdoor lifestyle’ is not a niche business limited geographically or seasonally,” said Jeff Davis, vice president of Klaussner Furniture Industries, a lead Dick Idol™ licensee. “We’re targeting the huge group of consumers who live a casual lifestyle, seek comfort, and love the outdoors. The addition of this new group illustrates our ongoing commitment to offer great-looking, unique, high quality, lifestyle branded products at an extremely good value.”
Klaussner Furniture plans to introduce approximately 30 new case good SKU’s including bedroom, dining room, and signature accent items (refer to attached descriptions), as well as new coordinating upholstery. The new Country Camp group draws inspiration from the days when rustic barns and country farmhouses graced the landscape by blending the straight-line simplicity of Arts & Crafts styling with casual country farmhouse motifs. Solid white oak frames and hand rubbed distressed finishes mix with x-motif planking, exposed tongue and groove construction, aged leather accents, and seeded glass to give the collection a rustic elegance and antique feeling. Colored finishes in sage, cream, and black add an eclectic feel to the group. Rustic textured hardware including strap hinges and turned wood and metal knobs set the tone for a timeless group that is sure to be passed down from generation to generation.
Dick Idol™ Northwoods is a comprehensive home collection designed specifically to help retailers effectively tell the outdoor lifestyle story on their showroom floors. Thus, a wide variety of new accessories will be launched at the Spring market to complement the Country Camp furniture group:
Decorative Accessories/Lighting: Based on the overwhelming success of its Dick Idol™ lighting line launched in Spring 2003, Pacific Coast Lighting will make its first foray into decorative accessories by launching approximately 30 SKU’s including candleholders, boxes, bowls, book-ends, ceramic vases, and uplights, all specifically designed to coordinate with the furniture and lighting lines. Additional Dick Idol™ accessories can be found at Cape Craftsmen.
Wall Art: Next Dimension Studio’s line of wall art focusing on “sofa sized” gicleés in the $125-$399 retail price range will be expanded to include approximately 50 exclusive images inspired by Idol’s passion for the outdoors from such esteemed artists as Luke Frazier, Jay Moore, Brian Wahl, and John Hopper.
Area Rugs: Capel will introduce two new braids and three new flat woven rugs (each available in a variety of sizes and colors) designed to coordinate with new upholstery from Klaussner.
Cold Cast Sculptures: Big Sky Carvers will introduce two new original Dick Idol sculptures, “Rainbow Rising” trout pair and “High Alert” pheasant, to now offer a total of eleven wildlife sculptures including elk, whitetail deer, grizzly bears, horses, labs, and more.
Home Florals: Natural Creations will launch approximately 15 new SKU’s focusing on colorful floral arrangements and trees for Spring such as the“hot” Feathered Pine Tree (4-7 feet tall).
High Point-based Dick Idol Ventures, LLC will continue to announce major new product licensing deals for the brand this year, according to DIV Chief Marketing Officer Jim Williams. Major announcements introducing manufacturing partners in the bedding and bath, men’s and women’s apparel, outerwear, and footwear, and even the log home categories are next for the rapidly expanding Dick Idol™ franchise. Brand-building strategies include a Dick Idol™ Discoveries television show debuting in 65 million households on the Outdoor Life Network in April 2004, as well as Dick Idol™ retail stores down the road.
The Dick Idol™ home collection has exceeded expectations at retail since first hitting showroom floors in March 2002. Approximately 300 stores across the U.S. and Canada carry major furniture galleries. In total, Dick Idol™ products can be found in more than 1,000 stores located in 49 states, as well as England, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. The brand has also been shown in Germany, and there has been interest from retailers as far away as Moscow and the Far East.
